Resumen

Antonio Grossich (1849–1926) was an influential figure of the Eastern Adriatic, whose life intersected science, politics, and nationalism. A pioneering surgeon, he introduced the use of iodine tincture for preoperative skin disinfection, a method that revolutionized antiseptic practices in military and civilian medicine. At the same time, he was a fervent Italian patriot and an active participant in the Fiume enterprise led by Gabriele D’Annunzio. His biography reflects the intertwining of scientific innovation and political passion in a period marked by the rise of Italian irredentism and the emergence of fascism. Grossich embodies the tensions between humanistic ideals and authoritarian drift in early twentieth-century Italy.
