Abstract

The Knightly Order of Santiago de la Spata, created in Spain in the 12th century to protect pilgrims on their way to the shrine of Santiago de Compostela, underwent deep institutional transformation in the late 15th century. Research conducted into the Archives of Pisa, Cagliari and Madrid have proved the existence of a link between the Order and Sardinia since the 15th century. In particular, the Fund named Ordenes Militares in Madrid allows to highlight the lives of many Sardinians who were appointed with the coveted title of Knight of Santiago between 1528 and 1817.
