Since the 1970s, Spain has experienced one of the most important periods of emigration in Contemporary History. Several millions of Spaniards moved to European countries, especially Switzerland, the Federal Republic of Germany and France. The host countries were experiencing a phase of important economic growth and enjoying democratic political systems, allowing many of these Spanish immigrants to gain political, associative and trade union experience, which broke the stereotype of exclusively economic immigration. In this text, we aim to analyse the main socio-political movements, whilst also defining the current state of this issue regarding the latest investigations.Downloads
