Abstract

The first part of this essay is a short account of the official relationships between the Kingdom of Sardinia and Uruguay, focussing upon bilateral agreements, trade connections and Italian immigration. Then follows the analysis of the Uruguayan consular network in the Kingdom of Sardinia and eventually in the Kingdom of Italy until the 'sixties of the nineteenth century. The intensification of trade relationships between the two countries, along with the increasing number of arrivals to the ports of the Kingdom of Sardinia vessels flying the flag of Uruguay, and being Cagliari among the most important ports, implied the presence of vice-consular authorities in Sardinia in order to protect the interests of the citizens of the "Banda Oriental".
